Big Boar Down
Friday the 13th was a good day for me but a bad day for a big bruise boar in Mt. Vernon. I had stopped at the Mt. Vernon property on the way back home from the DeKalb property to refill the feeder there and decided to stay in case a group of pigs we had on camera the previous night came back. This turned out to be a good decision as at 11:20pm, the ReoLink GO camera sent a video to my cell phone with pigs at the feeder.
I made the 100 yard stalk to the shooting lane and switched on the thermal. There were two near the feeder, one was pretty damn big. I repositioned my era muffs and when I did, it tapped the stock of my gun making an audible “click”. They immediately looked up at me and began to run back into the woods. I was about 55 yards away and ready. As the big one trotted away I lined up between two trees and took a shot. Wham! Down he went. He tried to get up so I fired another shot and he expired quickly.
I was surprised at how big he was. Probably over 200lbs and great cutters!
