Joe’s Big Boar
Joe joined the TXHogSlayer crew in January 2016 when he moved out here from CA. He came equipped with a new Ruger American .308 and an ATN X-Sight 3×12. He had been hunting a few times in 2015 with TXHogSlayer and had scored a small boar with a .243 and took a nice boar hunting with dogs. But, this was his first solo hunt and his first kill with his new rifle. Not to mention the first kill onm the TXHogSlayer Lease down in Rusk, TX.
This beast came in at 1am. he stopped to munch some corn we had put down near a trail. This was our first time at the lease and were going off of signs to choose our hunting location. We nailed it.
Joe shot him at about 40 yards. Double-lunged the bastard and he took off. We tried to locate him that night with the blood light but he didn’t bleed – at all. Also, we lost the tracks in the pine needles. So, we backed out and decided to track him the next morning.
We located his tracks the next morning and when we lost them, we set up a grid search. Within 10 minutes we were standing over a boar that we estimate to be between 230 and 250#.
