My dad was in San Diego for the last month so he hadn’t been out for a pig hunt in a while. We remedied that by taking a quick trip down to 4J Ranch in Centerville, TX on Sunday 2/26.
Weather was challenging. 70s with a stiff 15mph wind. The wind had the pigs on edge and in our first few blind set ups we struggled. Pigs would come to the edge of the timber and hang up, then retreat. Never presenting a shot. Finally at around 1130pm the wind laid down enough for the pigs to come out and feed. We had made our way out to the front blind and spotted a group of pigs at 90 yards feeding.
We got set up and agreed to shoot together on a countdown. We had tried this in the past but never managed to get two down. Well, that bad luck streak ended tonight. We chose our respective targets, counted down and BANG! Two hogs down.
I took a 90lb boar and dad dropped an 80lb sow. They both crumbled where they stood.
