Varmint Control With The Kids
Nothing beats taking a kid hunting…period. Especially when there are plenty of things to shoot! Well, for the 3rd time this year, I was able to take two of my three boys hunting. The third son, my youngest, loves animals and can’t even squash a bug…so, he’s not exactly into hunting. But, Treyton (11) and Baedon (9) love to get their Marlin .22s loaded up and shoot anything that moves!
We headed down to 4J ranch where we got special access for a varmint-only hunt! The coons had been raiding the feeders and it was time to get them in check. We got there before dark and spent the late evening shooting rabbits and oppossums. Once it was dark, we hunkered down in the blind waiting for coons. And they showed as expected. The coons wouldn’t cooperate with the motion-detected lights and the tac lights we had on the .22s so we pulled out my ATN X-sight night vision .243 and let ‘em have it! Each of the boys nailed coons from over 60 yards! Just an awesome time!
It’s nice to get out with your kids. Especially in this day and age when if it ain’t on a computer or smartphone, kids don’t want to have anything to do with it. Hunting is a great way to bond with them and to get them up and out there!
Now that I know they can handle the .243, it’s time to introduce them to hog hunting which is what it’s all about!
